Iran on Sunday dismissed comments by Tony Blair advocating regime change in Tehran and Damascus, calling them “worthless” and adding that Blair “is not in a position to make such comments” about Iran. "The threats of the former British prime minister are worthless to the Iranian nation," the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
On Saturday, former British Prime Minister Blair said in an interview with the London Times that “regime change in Tehran would immediately make me significantly more optimistic about the whole of the region.” If Iran were to acquire nuclear weapons capability, it would destabilize the region very, very badly.” Blair also called for Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assaf to step down as well, saying that Assad s not going to lead the program of change in Syria now. He has shown he is not capable of reform. His position is untenable. There is no process of change that leaves him intact.”
