The Kuwaiti daily Al-Jarida reports that secret negotiations between Israel and the PA have been going on to prevent the UN PA statehood bid. Israel will negotiate a permanent settlement with the PA, in exchange for postponing the statehood bid for a year. According to the report, PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas has met with Defense Minister Barak, with a possibility of a near meeting between Abbas and PM Netanyahu. The PM has already updated FM Lieberman and opposition head Tzipi Livni. The Kuwaiti paper also says that the PM is considering holding early elections and running with Barak and Lieberman on the same list.
Nimar Hamad, advisor to Abbas says the PA will not go to the UN if Israel agrees to stop construction in towns of Judea and Samaria, and will negotiate based on the pre-’67 armistice lines.
Nabil Sha’ath, a member of the Fatah Central Committee said on the other hand that the PA will definitely submit its statehood bid at the UN, no matter what.
