Chairman Shaul Mofaz of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee said, Sunday, that the committee vote, earlier in the day, not to publish his report on the Palestinian Authority's attempts to secure United Nations recognition as a sovereign state in September was a political outrage, calling it "an attempt to stifle" the committee. The report was critical of the Israeli government's handling of the effort.
The former Defense Minister said he would distribute drafts of the report as a classified document to government and security leaders, adding, "I call on the prime minister to read the report. I expect the rest of the cabinet and heads of the [security] system to read the material and comment on it. I intend to summon some of the [security] sources to the committee and listen to their responses to the concrete figures that came up in the report." He said, "The Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee will continue to monitor and follow the progress of the September process as it happens, while monitoring the behavior of the government of Israel."
