Local Scientists Develop Computer Model to Fight Cancer

Professor Eytan Ruppin of the schools of computer science and medicine at Tel Aviv University, Professor Eyal Gottlieb of the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research at the University of Glasgow and Doctor Tomer Shlomi of Haifa's Technion Institute have created the first computer model for the metabolism of a cancer cell at a genome scale, according to this month's Nature. Professor Ruppin explained that in principle, inhibiting a cancer cell's unique metabolic signatures can help destroy it in a specific and selective manner, addressing the question of destroying cancer cells while avoiding damage to other cells.
