Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas met with Lebanese President Michel Suleiman and expressed support for his country's approach to “refugees.” Lebanon is right to treat second, third, and even fourth generation residents descended from Arabs who fled Israel as “temporary guests,” Abbas said.
“Their presence in Lebanon is temporary,” he said. They should be allowed to “return” to Israel, he added, saying, “We demand the full right of return for every Palestinian.”
Lebanon has repeatedly postponed granting refugees' descendants basic rights such as the right to work in various professions or to own property. While refugees have protested their lack of rights, the PA generally supports it for its own reasons. In June, a top PA official admitted that refugees' descendants are Abbas' “nuclear weapon.”
