600-700 million quarts evaporate off the Kinneret every day. With water pumping, the Kinneret loses about a billion quarts every day. Israel’s largest natural water resource, also known as the Sea of Galillee, is now at -698.82 feet below sea level. A full Kinneret is 13.81 feet away. The Water authority urges the public to conserve water and preserve the lake. The black line is about 5 feet down, at which point water must not be pumped from the Kinneret, to prevent salination of the water due to salt springs at the bottom of the lake. Salination has been prevented until now due to high water pressure. A good winter will refill the Kinneret.
