Egypt: Proceedings to Cancel Emergency Law

The Egyptian government has begun proceedings to cancel the existing emergency regulations which have been in effect for 30 years.

The move is part of promises made by the government to demonstrators after the ouster of former President Hosni Mubarak. A statement by the Egyptian government said that the process will end before the parliamentary elections scheduled for November.
