In an interview with the Knesset Channel Monday, Roni Sofer, Binyamin Netanyahu's spokesperson, said that the Prime Minister understood that major change in the economy was necessary. “He understands that something has changed and that the priorities must change as well. We intend to do some serious work, and reach conclusions by September,” he said.
Channel One said Monday night that the government was “seriously considering” a number of steps that would significantly reduce the cost of living. Among the changes being considered were a reduction in Value Added Tax by at least 2%, a “drastic” reduction in purchase tax and import duties, a partial tax deduction for the costs of raising children, and a sharp increase in taxes on the wealthy.
