Supreme Court Hearing on Doctor Sanctions Tuesday

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hold an urgent hearing, Tuesday morning, on a petition by attorney Deror Porrer, calling for the involvement of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu in efforts to bring an end to sanctions by the Israel Medical Federation during negotiations on a collective-bargaining agreement.

Responding to the petition, state attorneys claimed that the mechanism for solving the dispute must be arbitration, since there is virtually no chance of solving it through negotiation. Doctors are opposed to arbitration, based on what they called the "crippling" results of the last arbitration, in 2008.
