President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela celebrated his 57th birthday on Thursday. The outspoken critic of Israel and the United States promised the citizens of his country that he would overcome cancer and remain in office for at least 20 more years.
Speaking to a crowd of supporters, Chavez said his cancer treatment would take months, but he would be ready to run for re-election next year. He added, "I said I would retire in 2021 but I don't intend to retire in 2021. Maybe in 2031."
