PM: Govt. to Help Relieve Housing Crisis

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Sunday that the protests over affordable housing were “justified and understandable.” Netanyahu said that construction had begun, or was about to begin, on 48,000 homes. Speaking at Sunday's cabinet meeting, Netanyahu said that “apartments are expensive because there are not enough of them. This is because of a government monopoly that holds onto 90% of the land in Israel which is set for development.”

Netanyahu said that the government would take specific steps to help young couples, students, and needy population groups over the next year and a half, “until the large waves of apartments are built.”
