Lieberman: We Won't Quit Govt. Over Flotilla Apology

Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said that even if Israel apologizes to Turkey for the deaths of 9 Hamas-affiliated activists on the Mavi Marmara during the 2010 flotilla, his Yisrael Beiteinu party would not resign from the government. Ministers and officials from the Defense and Foreign Ministries will discuss Sunday how to handle the upcoming UN report on the flotilla, and the discussion is expected to entail the possibility of an Israeli apology to Turkey, which Lieberman opposes.

At the beginning of Sunday's cabinet meeting, Lieberman said that improved relations were in the interest of both Turkey and Israel. “Israel has no need to apologize,” he said, adding that “even if there is disagreement on this, we will not quit the government.”
