A senior diplomatic source in Jerusalem said that while Israel was interested in reparing relations with Turkey, Ankara seemed less interested in doing so. Israel, the sources said, was prepared to express its “regrets” over the Mavi Marmara incident and to transfer money to a fund that would be set up by Turkey. However, Israel's condition would be a Turkish commitment not to seek charges against IDF soldiers who killed Hamas-affiliated Turkish activists on the ship.
Turkey has refused to give such a commitment, said the source, and the Turkish government seems intent on continuing to keep relations sour. The Palmer report on the 2010 flotilla is due out Wednesday.
