Tension between Jewish, Arab Farmers in Wadi Ara

Tensions between Jewish and Arab farmers in the Wadi Ara region were high on Wednesday after Jewish farmers in Kibbutz Gilad and Moshav Givat Nili discovered that their fences had been severely damaged overnight. Dozens of kilometers of fence were ruined.

The farmers believe the vandalism was perpetrated by Arab shepherds in the area in revenge for a recent decision by regional authorities to demolish a cowshed that Arab farmers had built illegally in an IDF firing range.

Farmers reported that the fences have been damaged three times in the past two years, and in addition, they lose dozens of cows each year to theft. Each grown cow costs 3,000 shekels or more.
