El-Araby: Assad Promised Transparent Elections

Nabil el-Araby, the incoming Secretary-General of the Arab League, said Tuesday that Syrian President Bashar Assad had promised him that he will hold transparent presidential elections next year.

In an interview on the Al-Arabiya television network, el-Araby responded to the remarks made by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who claimed that Assad had lost his legitimacy.

“No state has any right to say that a certain leader needs to go,” said el-Araby.
