Residents of Nir Galim and Ashdod have filed a huge lawsuit against Agan Chemicals, based on ongoing complaints on pollution the company has been responsible for at least 23 years. The NIS 642 million (about $186 million) lawsuit is one of the largest environmental-based class-action suits in the country's history.
The lawsuit says that residents and environmental groups have filed hundreds of complaints and recorded offenses by the company since at least 1988. The pollution has caused an intolerable smell in the area of the factory, and many residents of the area complain of health problems. The company manufactures pesticides and agricultural chemicals.
