European Commission President Jose Barroso praised the transitional government created by opponents of the Qaddafi regime in Libya, and expressed willingness to assist the group in organizing elections and setting up state institutions. He spoke Wednesday after meeting with transitional government representative Mahmoud Jabril.

“I think this visit is a sign of the growing authority and credibility of the Transitional National Council on the international scene,” he told journalists.
