Mitzna: Rabin Never Directly Ordered Breaking of Bones

Amram Mitzna, who was a general in the Central Command, said Thursday that then defense minister Yitzchak Rabin never issued specific orders to "break the bones" of Arab rioters during the first intifada, which broke out in the late 1980s. Speaking at a conference held in Ramat Eph'al on the uprising, Mitzna said Rabin did order troops to charge into groups of rioters and use physical force to convince them to go home. Rabin also ordered that troops be issued clubs for the purpose.

Several soldiers, who were court martialed for breaking the bones of Arab rioters, said they were just following orders.
