U.S. Imposes Further Sanctions on Syria

The U.S. imposed new sanctions on Syria on Wednesday, in response to its violent crackdown on demonstrators.

The new sanctions target the Syrian political security directorate and the head of Syrian Air Force Intelligence. Their assets would be frozen and American companies will be prohibited from doing trade with them.

The sanctions also target Iran’s national police force, including its chief and deputy chief, for providing support to the Syrian regime in cracking down on protesters.
