IDF Denies Syrian Death Reports

The Spokesperson's Office of the Israel Defense Forces said Sunday that 12 people who demonstrated and tried to cross Syria's border with Israel were wounded to varying degrees. The office denied reports by Syrian television that five people were killed by Israeli fire and ten more were wounded.

Israeli troops fired shots in the air and tear gas cannisters as hundreds of Arabs came to the border and threw rocks at them. Before doing so, they warned the demonstrators that they risked being killed if they tried to cross the border. A military spokesman said Israel has not used all the resources at its disposal against potential infiltrators. Sunday's demonstrations marked the 44th anniversary of the start of the Six-Day War on the secular calendar. Similar activity is expected on Tuesday, which marks the secular anniversary of the liberation of Jerusalem.
