Jewish Man Arrested in Itamar Clash

A Jewish man from Itamar was arrested Wednesday as residents of Itamar clashed with Palestinian Authority Arabs from the nearby town of Awarta. A PA man had accused the Jewish man of throwing a rock at him.

The Jewish man said the PA man had attempted to run him over with a tractor, and he had lifted the rock in an attempt to scare him into stopping, but had not actually thrown it. The PA man was not detained despite the Jewish man's report.

The incident took place as residents of Itamar attempted to move Awarta residents further from the borders of their town while the latter insisted on farming land adjacent to Itamar. In March two men from Awarta entered Itamar and murdered five members of the Fogel family; one of the two had been in Itamar previously under the guise of agricultural work.
