A court in Munich ordered John Demjanjuk freed from custody pending a decision on appeal of his conviction Thursday in the murder of more than 28,000 Jews at the Sobibor death camp during the Holocaust. The judges said the 91-year-old native of the Ukraine had nowhere to which to flee.

Demjanjuk was sentenced to five years in prison.
