President Shimon Peres presented certificates of excellence to 120 soldiers in a Tuesday morning ceremony at the Presidential Residence in Jerusalem. The soldiers will also get 4,000-shekel scholarships from the Organization for the Welfare of the Soldier, donated by the Len Blavatnik fund of UK Friends of AUIS.
In remarks prepared for the event, Peres called on the soldiers to take the country on their shoulders and raise it higher. He said not to be afraid of redesigning the future in a big away. He anticipated, "an Israel of peace, a democratic Israel in a democratic Middle East, an Israel with a society of equality among its children and for all its citizens, regardless of religion and race, a society saturated with faith and science, an Israel which preserves its ancient heritage and blazes a path in this innovative age. You can do it. We need it."
