Obama Expresses Hope for Israel and Turkey Improvement

United States President Barack Obama expressed hope to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday that Turkey and Israel "will find opportunities to improve their relations in the interest of regional stability," according to a White House statement.

Obama's comments came at the end of a telephone call in which the two leaders denounced the violence that the Libyan and Syrian governments were using against their citizens. While calling for Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi to step down and leave Libya permanently, the statement said, "The leaders agreed that the Syrian government must end the use of violence now and promptly enact meaningful reforms that respect the democratic aspirations of Syrian citizens."
