Qatar's Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani  will meet United States President Barack Obama at the White House on Thursday. Among the topics to be discussed are recent developments in the Middle East and Qatar's role in Libya.

In an address to the Los Angeles World Affairs Council on Saturday, the emir repeated his support for a Palestinian Authority state with its capital in Jerusalem, according to the Qatar News Agency. While expressing appreciation for U.S. efforts, he said the time has come to make the United Nations the focal point of diplomatic efforts.
