Education Minister Gideon Sa'ar on Tuesday criticized a decision by Kadima Mks to meet with Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas. Speaking in the Knesset, Sa'ar said that “it is legitimate to meet with Abbas, but a meeting by opposition members with him while he refuses to conduct negotiations with Israel and attempts to isolate us is against the interests of Israel.”
Earlier, MK Nachman Shai said he would organize a visit to see Abbas next Sunday. Shai said that he had received an invitation to meet Abbas, and that the visit was not planned to damage Israel's interess. A number of Kadima Mk's expressed anger over the proposed meeting, and it was not clear Tuesday how many Mks would accompany him.
