Shas spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef has called upon members of his party to stop pushing legislation designed to thwart Yisrael Beiteinu's IDF Conversion Law, Army Radio reported on Tuesday.
According to the new Shas initiative, the chief military rabbi would only be appointed by the Chief Rabbinate, thereby enabling Shas to exert control over conversions in the army. In Rabbi Yosef's opinion, this new law is unnecessary because of the good relationship already existent between the two rabbinates.
