Sources in Lebanon on Sunday denied that it had pledged that its army would prevent a deterioration of the security situation on Israel's northern border. The sources thus denied an assertion by U.S. congressman Howard Braverman, a member of the House Security Committee, that such a pledge had been made when Lebanon received $100 million in U.S. military aid.

Lebanese army officials were quoted as telling Hizbullah-controlled media in south Lebanon that the army “will not ignore any aggressive acts by Israel,” media reports said.
