After significant price jumps in the cost of fruit and vegetables, Israelis can expect the price of flour and sugar to rise as well. Sugat, which processes much of the sugar and flour in Israel, reported Wednesday that it is set to raise its prices by 20%. A kilo of sugar will cost about NIS 5. These price rises join other increases in recent prices, including soy oil, cheese, and of course tomatoes and potatos.

Producers blamed last summer's hot weather on the price increases, as many of the basic crops that are used to feed cows were lost to drought or flood. In addition, there has been a huge increase in demand from China and India, putting further pressure on producer prices.
