The state prosecutor's office will present a plea deal to the Haifa District court in the case of Amir Makhoul, a journalist and writer who was arrested last year of spying for Hizbullah. Makhoul allegedly worked with Hizbullah operatives during and after the Second Lebanon War.

Makhoul confessed to the charges, but at the opening of his trial he claimed he was tortured for that confession. If the deal is approved, Makhoul's lawyers are expected to ask that he be sentenced to no more than 7 years in prison, while prosecutors will probably seek at least a 10 year sentence.
