Arab MK on Flotilla May Loose Rights
Knesset Member Hanin Zouabi (Balad) is under scrutiny for her participation in the flotilla of boats that attempted to infiltrate into Gaza. Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin, announced that the Knesset will investigate the matter on Tuesday. He explained that since the attorney general has yet to decide whether or not to indict MK Zouabi, he will proceed to vote on the removal of her parliamentary immunity.
Zouabi is Israel's first female Arab Knesset member, elected in 2008. She was aboard the first ship in the flotilla which was manned by Turkish militants who attacked the Israeli soldiers who boarded the ship, resulting in nine deaths. Zouabi has been a vocal critic of Israel and has announced on several occasions her identification with Gaza and Palestinian Authority residents as opposed to Israelis.
