The Shani Commission investigating illnesses of IDF divers attributed to their diving in the polluted Kishon River has concluded that there is no direct connection between the fact that the soldiers practiced diving maneuvers in the river, and the illnesses they later suffered. The commission reached conclusions similar to that of the Shamgar Commission that researched the same issue, that no scientific connection could be made between the chemicals in the river, and several of the diseases that the divers came down with – and as a result, only a limited number of the divers will be compensated. In addition, no financial compensation at all will be given to divers who swam in the river before 1975.
