The Histadrut on Thursday declared sanctions against Bezeq, the communications company, claiming that management was refusing to negotiate on the future rights of workers if a planned sale of 30.7% of the company takes place. The NIS 6.5 billion deal, in which businessman Shaul Elovich is set to acquire control of the company, will have “profound effects” on the future of company workers, as well as on Israel's security, the Histadrut said.
According to Israeli labor law, official sanctions must be declared before a full-fledged strike, which can begin two weeks after sanctions begin. The Histadrut said it hoped the differences with management could be resolved without having to resort to a strike.
