      Benizri Asks for Pardon


      Former minister Shlomo Benizri applied to President Shimon Peres and Justice Minister Ya'akov Ne'eman for a pardon on Sunday, a third of the way through his four-year sentence for receiving a bribe, breach of trust, conspiracy and obstruction of justice charges in connection with someone under his jurisdiction as Labor and Welfare minister.

      Benizri cited the amount of time served, as well as the financial damage suffered. He also criticized the courts system for taking the deterrent aspect of his sentence more than his family situation
