Interior Minister Eli Yishai (Shas) said Tuesdy he would consider reducing the fee charged for renewal of a lost or stolen passport from NIS 1,000 to NIS 750.
The recent raising of the fee to NIS 1,000 has led to a 30% reduction is reports of stolen or lost passports. However, Yishai said that the high fee was too great of a burden on the Israeli public and he intends to bring it back down to NIS 750 for a one year trial period.
