Bedouin Suspected of Damaging Archeological Site
Bedouin vandals may be responsible for the destruction of hundreds of archaeological artifacts at Ovdat National Park. Stone pillars at the ancient Nabatean City in the Negev were knocked down, stones were smashed, and the walls of the compound were spray-painted.
Recently police destroyed 23 illegal Bedouin structures in the area. They are checking whether the vandalism is in retaliation for the move. UNESCO declared Ovdat National Park a World Heritage Site in 2005.
