Iraqi President: Iran Sanctions Won't Work

Iraqi President Jalal Talabani said Saturday that sanctions won't work in the fight to halt Iran's nuclear program. Instead, he said, Western powers should negotiate with Iranian leaders and allow them to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

Talabani said no country would be allowed to use Iraqi airspace in order to strike Iran. The United Nations imposed sanctions on Iraq during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990. The sanctions lasted for more than a decade.
