No Tummy Tops for Teachers

Heads of two teachers’ organizations demanded before the new school year that teachers dress appropriately “in order to serve as a personal example to the students.” The request was agreed between Education Minister Gidon Saar and the Teachers’ Union head, Yossi Wasserman, along with Raz Erez, the chairman of the Secondary School Teachers’ Organization. Erez said that a dress code will include a call to teachers not to wear shorts, undershirts or shirts that reveal their stomachs.

Ettie Binyamin, head of the national parental conduct committee sent a letter Sunday to the Education Minister in which she wrote that a dress code “isn’t just for students but for almost any respectable workplace,” and that teachers should wear clothes that are respectful to their colleagues, students, and their parents.
