Chabad Build First Mikveh in Sri Lanka

The South Asian nation of Sri Lanka, a center of Buddhism since ancient times, will also soon welcome its first kosher mikveh, now under construction by the Chabad-Lubavitch movement, according to journalist Michael Freund.

Rabbi Mendy Crombie and his wife Talia, emissaries of the Chassidic group, are building the ritual pool in Colombo, the largest city in Sri Lanka, an island nation located about 31 kilometers off the southern coast of India. Up to this point, Jews in Sri Lanka were forced to board a plane for a three-hour flight to Bangkok when they needed to visit a mikveh, used to renew ritual purity.
