Starting this fall students in Connecticut high schools will be able to study Hebrew online for school credit and fulfill their high school language requirement. Public ACT 08-138, passed by the Connecticut legislature last summer, allows for high school credit for private world language courses provided the students achieve "a passing grade on an examination prescribed, within available appropriations, by the Commissioner of Education..."

The legislation was originally initiated by New Britain's Polish community which requested that credit be given to high school students studying Polish at their local Polish language school. One condition to the law is that students must study via a non-profit organization. "Rabbi Rock University Media Corp." will be the non-profit umbrella organization for the Hebrew language course provider, www.istudyhebrew.com.
