Yisrael Beiteinu has proposed a law which will forbid Arabs in Israel from celebrating the annual Nakba day, commemorating the “disaster” (in Arabic Nakba) which befell them when Israel became a state. Arabs commemorate the day generally on May 15th, this Friday.
Yisrael Beiteinu MK Alex Miller has proposed that any commemoration of the day should be outlawed, with perpetrators facing a maximum of three years in prison. He explained that it is inconceivable that Arabs should be able to mourn Israel’s creation when they live in the country.
