Defense Minister Ehud Barak extended Wednesday night the “special zone” to the 40 km (24 mile) range from the Gaza border, which will now include Be’er Sheva, Yavneh, and surrounding areas.

The Defense Minister’s orders transfer the wartime decisions of the local government to the Defense Minister. In addition, pamphlets were distributed to advise the residents what to do in the event of a rocket attack.
