Rabbis Call for Thursday Prayers

Chief Rabbis Shlomo Amar and Yona Metzger have called for a special day of prayer on Thursday due to the global financial crisis. “We ask our brethren to gather... to say a prayer and ask for mercy,” the rabbis explained.

Many workers have lost their jobs, and several leading businessmen who gave large contributions to various Jewish communal needs are no longer able to do so, the rabbis said. They called on Jews to go to prayer services early on Thursday, to recite selichot (prayers for forgiveness), to fast and to give extra charity.
