A French group campaigning for the release of kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit is staging a marathon run on the soldier's behalf on Sunday. Hamas terrorists kidnapped Shalit, who possesses dual French and Israeli citizenship, on June 25, 2006, in a cross-border raid on an Israeli army base bordering Gaza.

Last month, Noam Shalit, Gilad’s father, called upon French citizens to mobilize for his son “like you did for Ingrid Betancourt,” a French-Columbian freed in July from captivity after more than six years.
