A scuffle broke out at a voting station on Yirmiyahu (Jeremiah) street in Jerusalem Tuesday between groups with opposing positions. The people involved were from the hareidi-religious camp. Israeli media reported that some of the ruffians were opposed entirely to voting, and tried to stop others from doing so.
Most hareidi sects in Jerusalem are voting for the lone hareidi mayoral candidate Meir Porush, but Gerrer hassidim are strongly opposed to Porush and Tuesday afternoon began voting for secular candidate Nir Barkat. That is a divisive issue which seems more pertinent.
Police broke it up, but a guard from the polling station was lightly hurt in the process. He went to the hospital.
