Akko police are searching for a Muslim who reportedly incited the Arab community with a call to violence through the mosque's loudspeaker system that invites Arabs to prayer. Public Security Minister Avi Dichter (Kadima) said after the Yom Kippur riots that he was told of the incident and that he ordered an investigation. The inciter spread a false report that Jews had killed the Arab driver who burst into a Jewish neighborhood and disturbed the sanctity of the Yom Kippur holiday. He has expressed regret for his action.
Policemen on Sunday kept a tight rein on violence that has continued sporadically since the first riots, and the number of arrests rose to 54.
