The 100-year-old Kosher Overseers Associates of America, which uses a half-moon K symbol, has joined the Orthodox Union (OU). A formal announcement is to be made in several weeks. Kosher Overseers and the OU previously have clashed concerning the level of kosher supervision.

Another kosher organization also took Kosher Overseers to court over the half-moon symbol, charging copyright infringement. The OU plans to phase out the symbol and replace it with its Circle U.
