Knesset C'tee OK's Golan Referendum Bill

The Knesset's Joint House and Law Committee approved a proposal Sunday requiring a national referendum be held before any territorial concessions are made within Israel's borders, including the Golan Heights and Jerusalem but not including Judea and Samaria.

"We have decided to include all the territory within Israel's jurisdiction in the bill requiring a national referendum be held before the government can agree to cede the Golan Heights to Syria as part of any potential peace deal. We believe the political situation has changed and this bill will now receive the Knesset plenum's support," said MK David Tal (Kadima), chairman of the House Committee.

The bill will be brought to a vote in the joint committee one more time before it is brought before the plenum.
