Ship Work Slowdown Affecting Arriving of Lifts for Olim

Israeli ports are working at 20-40 percent of normal capacity because of a work slowdown, according to a representative of Sonigo International Shipping. The delays in arrival of lifts and other shipments may result in extra charges due to storage fees.

Many ships are not waiting to load shipments for other Israeli ports or are calling only on Haifa or Ashdod instead of both ports.

Sonigo official Ed Singer explained that dockworkers have issued sanctions because of government intentions to use the land it owns at the ports and open new docks that would be run by competitors to the Israel Ports Authority.
