Defense Minister Ehud Barak visited the 150-year-old synagogue in Alexandria, Egypt during his visit to meet with Egyptian officials in the city on Tuesday, according to Yeshiva World News. The house of worship was destroyed by Napoleon and later rebuilt.
The Eliyahu HaNavi synagogue's "gabbai," whose function usually is make sure prayers and Torah readings proceed correctly, gave Barak a guided tour and explained local customs.
